January 8 First Friday Book Club – We’re Doing Something Different

The First Friday Book Club, normally scheduled for Friday, January 8, will not be meeting – because we’re doing it a bit different this time.

To prepare for our First Friday Book Club meeting in February, you will need to go to the library and check out the DVD of the movie “Argo.”

“Argo” is a political thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck.

The film received seven Oscar nominations and won three: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

How many of you remember the 1979 storming of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran by Iranian activists when over 50 embassy workers were taken hostage?

Do you also remember that 6 embassy workers escaped?  Eventually they were brought to safety – with the ultra secret help of Canada.

“Argo” tells this harrowing story.
